Staying Home on a Rainy Weekend

I hope you are all well and enjoying time at home with your children.

You probably have heard that all Connecticut schools will remain closed through April 20, per Governor Lamont’s mandate. Accordingly, Easton Country Day School and therefore, Little Phoenix, must follow the governor’s executive orders and will remain closed until at least April 20. We are all anxiously awaiting getting back to school and seeing your beautiful children, but as of now, please know that we have a few more weeks of closures, social distancing and lots of handwashing and sanitizing! During this pandemic, we will await further instructions from the State of Connecticut and Governor Lamont for Connecticut schools.

I do sincerely hope that you are faring well staying at home. I know staying home is a big change for all of us and having a young child home 24/7 adds to the challenge. So, I’d like to suggest some activities and hopefully helpful ideas to cope in the current environment.

I personally think, Keep Calm and Carry On is a good motto for these days…. A clear head, calm mind and body and structured daily schedule will pay off handsomely with our interactions with our children. More on that next week…

For this rainy weekend, put away the paperwork and computer and try….

-Building a fort, and pretend to be in a forest, in a jungle, on an island, or in a magical place. You can carry on the storyline day to day…its lots of fun! And this may become your new favorite activity and spot in your home.
-Painting a picture – of your favorite animal or superhero or friend
-Creating a thank you card to send to the “front line” docs and nurses at our hospitals
-Baking cookies together and eating them all up
-Completing a puzzle together
-Throwing a dance party
-Cuddling and reading books

Try to get outside, between the raindrops, if you can – a quick stroller ride or walk with your dog, will prove beneficial for all.

Remember your child(dren) want your attention most of all, so any quality (undistracted) attention they receive from you will be wonderful. Choose things you enjoy so you are happy too. Let loose and play together (with toys or just pretend); you will make them soooo happy… and more cooperative!

Stay well!
